[Digikam-users] Version control of photos in Digikam?

There seems to have been a huge amount of discussion about this in those requests.  My workaround for the time being is to simply add suffixes to the names of any versions I create.  E.g. if the original is called IMG_3877.JPG then you could have:
IMG_3877.JPG
IMG_3877-01--vertical crop.JPG
IMG_3877-01-01--reduced for email.JPG
IMG_3877-01-02--monochrome.JPG
IMG_3877-02--horizontal crop.JPG

When sorted by name, this keeps them in an order that shows which image has been derived from which (e.g. -01 and -02 are from the original, -01-01 and -01-02 are from -01, etc).  Note that I had to use a double dash to add a description, or the sorting would be wrong.
