[Digikam-users] Newbie question

Hi my name is Adam and I am new to DigiKam and fairly new to linux,

First I would like to say thank you to the developers of this cool app. I wish I would have heard of it before I bought ACDSEE. 

My problem today is the application runs very slow. I have about 55000 images. I saw something while searching around about splitting the database up. 

Do I need to do that? if so, how?
