There is a wiki page about Digikam compilation on the KDE wiki. It's the 0.10-
svn version and meant for Kubuntu 8.10, but there's no big difference in 
compiling Digikam for Ubuntu.

There are a lot of dependencies you need to install, but it's all written down 
at http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-
