Well, hard to tell for me, as I don't use the same system...
(Here on kubuntu everything works fine on a 1024x768 laptop display).

Can't find the camera in the list
http://gphoto.org/proj/libgphoto2/support.php
You could try to ask in the #gphoto IRC channel
(just put the above output into pastebin.com and point at the
resulting URL) if it should work in principle
(though the header says: "Gentoo problems -> #gentoo" ....)
Sorry that I can't help more, but this really seems to
be a gphoto issue rather than a digikam one ...
