Son of a b...

Looks like I have to eat my words on this one.
Doing clean installs of all the sources: libkexiv2 0.1.7, exiv2 0.1.7.1 and 
then digikam 0.9.4 worked. I am shocked, because I had done this before, but 
hadn't UNinstalled them with purges from the distro before. Some weird 
interaction would cause crashes. Odd, no other source install has been this 
problematic in 10 years of me compiling my own software alongside distro 
packages.

No crashes now. Got the newest digikam, until the distro comes out with its 
own version.
