I used them all, switching only your first line to this line:
DIGIKAM4DEST=$HOME/digikam-notes/DEV_digikam4

Interesting thing, that the Digikam icon in the taskbar before running
the command was to be a black SLR, and now it is the HAL 9000. Other
than that, no change in operation. I still get the "klauncher said:
Unknown protocol 'digikamalbums'."

I'm already out of them! I had asked on the Ubuntu list as well, but
nobody answered. From what I understood in bugzilla
(http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165885) this may be fixed in SVN.
I will recompile as I did before, and if that does not help I will
recompile without prefix flags. If that doesn't help I will simply say
thanks for teaching me to compile, and I will try my best every now
and then to see if I can get the then-current SVN to compile, run, and
work properly.

In any case I will report back. Thank you for being so patient Arnd
(and Gilles and everybody else).

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
