[Digikam-users] How to synchronise IPTC keywords with Digikam tags?

I have quite a few images (in digikam 0.9.5 beta) where the images
have lots of "left over" tags in the IPTC tags.  These are mostly a
consequence of me changing my mind about how to name and use tags.

Now that I have my tags names and layout fairly well settled I'd like
to get all the images' tags synchronised with the 'right' ones which
are presumably in the digikam database.

How can I do this?  Neither "Synchronize images with database" nor
"Update Metadata Database" seems to do what I want. (As an aside it
would be very useful if these two menu options could be clarified, I
am never sure which one does what)
