I had this same problem, when running Digikam on the GNOME desktop.
Since the KDE trashcan is not yet (easily) visible to GNOME it might be 
better to bypass the trashcan when running on GNOME.
Is the GNOME and KDE trash shared in some distributions?

I always bypassed this problem with a SHIFT+DELETE.
