[Digikam-users] Problems compiling to /usr/local

Any advice from anyone?  My other option is to compile straight to /usr, 
overwriting the digikam 0.8.2 package that is required by my Kubuntu 
Edgy install.  Doing that gives me pause; anyone had good long-term 
results overwriting an installed package?  TIA!
