I upgraded to the latest kipi plugins for Mandriva:
    * kipi-plugins-0.1.0-0.rc2.0.1.20060mdk.i586.rpm
    * libkexif0-0.2.3-0.1.20060mdk.i586.rpm
    * libkexif0-devel-0.2.3-0.1.20060mdk.i586.rpm
    * libkipi0-0.1.4-0.1.20060mdk.i586.rpm
    * libkipi0-devel-0.1.4-0.1.20060mdk.i586.rpm

The error still persists.

I also tried the command line example from the images2mpg file:
