What I am definitely longing for are auto-created shortcuts for the keywords!
I try to be really comprehensive in assigning keywords and I do really miss the
possibility to use the keyboard more or less exclusively for this task.
Having auto-created shortcuts, and perhaps a last-recently-used sort order for
the keywords, could make this task much less time consuming then it is now.

Unfortunately I am no C/C++ man, so DIY is impossible for me.
