To be honestly, the thumbbar is pretty useless.
It takes too much space and it only shows 1.Thumbnails  2. Star rating
(editable) 3. GPS icon
Considering that an average user probably won't care about thumbnails in
Preview mode it is too much to give up about 10% of the screen  for an ability
to see/set star ratings.
