This makes sense. One observation, though:

If I drag an image over the Tags tree the tree elements being hovered get
highlighted which looks like the behaviour I was originally expecting.

Maybe one could add a new button next to the "Open Tag Manager" button that
opens the "Captions/Tags -> Tags" view on the right side.
