            Bug ID: 358609
Summary: ‘Labels’ easily confused with ‘tags’ – new name?
           Product: digikam
           Version: 4.14.0
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Labels
          Assignee: digikam-devel at kde.org
          Reporter: karl at huftis.org

Personally, I find the use of the term ‘label’ and ‘tag’ used for two very
different features in digiKam confusing. The two words can be used for exactly
the same thing in English (though there are also some differences in meaning).
See, for example, the following image searches.

https://www.google.no/search?tbm=isch&q=label
https://www.google.no/search?tbm=isch&q=tag

‘Tags’ is fine, and used with basically the same meaning in other KDE
applications and on the Web. But ‘Labels’ are easily confused with ‘Tags’. I
propose changing ‘Labels’ to ‘Categories’. It’s different enough to not be
confused with tags, and it’s (sort of) natural that an image can only belong to
*one* ‘colour’ category, *one* ‘pick’ category or *one* ‘rating’ category.

Reproducible: Always
