I appear to get this problem too. It been in existence for a long time.
If you try to delete a second time it complains that the file isn't there but
then the thumbnail disappears.
Even worse though, when deleting photos that are apparently still there,
digikam then deletes a DIFFERENT (real) file and its impossible to restore it.

Camera - Nikon CoolpixS9100 connected in PTP mode.
