A lots of fixes have been done since 4.4.0 release. Please update to last
4.13.0 and try again.

Also check well all option from Setup/Camera/Behaviors panel. Handling metadata
options can introduce time latency.

Finally, which kind of camera driver your use ? Gphoto or UMS ?
