I am using Windows, not OSX, so the latest version with an installer I can use
is 4.10.0

I have tried digiKam 3.2.0, 3.3.0, 3.4.0, and now 4.10.0.
The bug I reported does not occur in 3.2.0. It does occur in both both 3.3.0
and 3.4.0.
In digiKam 4.10.0 digiKam no longer freezes when a picture is selected and the
"captions & tags" sidebar is open, but it still does when a picture is selected
and the "properties" or "colors" sidebar is open.

New digiKam 4.11.0 is available with official PKG installer for OSX.
