I tried under Linux and OSX, and this problem is not reproducible.

Perhaps there is a LOCALE settings adjustment to do in OS account ?

album name (or path) is recored in DB as UTF8 string. So typically, this must
properly supported. In source code, we use QString which is fully UTF8
complaint.

Q : did you created a digiKam DB from scratch or used an older one through a
digiKam update ?
