I'm experiencing this problem too on the same platform as the OP:  Windows 7 64
bit.

I've tried the latest version and each version back to 4.4.0 and they all do
the same thing.  DigiKam was working fine until about 10 days ago.  I don't
know what I did to make it not work anymore.  I went through the Window's
program list and uninstalled everything that I have installed since then.

The CPU is steady at 50%.

If I kill the application and related kde processes and restart it will display
the thumbnail but as soon as I click on it it hangs.

What other information do I need to provide?
