Symptoms:

DigiKam (3 PCs with OpenSuse) freezes when I try to edit an author/rights
template - or gets extremly slow. The template editor is also slow under
Windows with a smaller image database.

Note: The database contains millions of images and a complex tag hierarchy. 
No image was selected.

Background:
When I select the option "Write Metadata templates to images" digiKam freezes
for 20 minutes. After that any attempt to edit author/rights templates will
cause the GUI to freeze (I restarted many times). I waited 6 hours but it did
not terminate.

No idea what blocks the editor. I was not able to test if the templates are
applied to images, because I do not want to write outdated template contents.
There is just a single template around that was added a couple of years ago.
