It's not better. Look like there is no digiKam source code visible here.

I suspect a problem with GStreamer plugin used by KDE Phonon component to
display video files... I recently seen some report about this problem here (all
relevant of a Phonon backend problem, not digiKam)

In fact digiKam as no video player. We delegate video view to Phonon widget
from KDELibs...
