Inge Wallin said this on kde-soc-mentor yesterday

student who hasn't at least done a little work beforehand and proven 
him/herself."

and I personally feel the same. If I recall who of our students has been 
successful, I believe almost all of them matched the description, and those 
who failed did not match.
(this is personal opinion)
