I see the same issue on my Windows 7 x64 system; for me it only occurs when a
certain USB stick is connected (Verbatim 8GB) - the stick is NTFS formatted. I
don't have other sticks at hand to test them.

When I remove that stick I can use digiKam; the error message shown in the
debugger is the same as reported initially.

If you also have a USB stick connected, you might want to try without it to see
if that might provide a workaround for you as well?
