There is something wrong with KDE Kio slave interface. Job are started and
broken for an obscure reason. 

Thumbnail are process in a separated process trough KIO slave. This is why
thumb are empty.

Sound like a problem with KDE core, not digiKam.

Just to test, run Showfoto and open a folder with images. Look if thumb are
visible in thumbbar. Showfoto do not use kioslave...
