Look on the left.. .there are albums with photos from the first month, but the
photos showing on the top there are from the second month... 

Looks like Digikam cannot sort purely on photo date stamp, but in stead looks
at the album date, and then only sorts the photos within one album. Admittedly,
the date of creation of my albums are all over the place, but I don't think
that should matter, I did not ask Digikam to sort my albums, I asked it to sort
my photos.
