I agree - the information needs to be visual. You should see the thumbnail
photo and know from the icon that this is a photo with multiple versions.
A stacked icon, where it looks like a bunch of slides stacked one on top of the
other (and with the most recent version visible in the icon) will indicate this
easily. That way, you don't need to look at two places on the screen to find
out the information that you need. You can deduce it immediately from the
looking at the photo thumbnail.
Problem solved.
