I confirm the issue as originally reported in comment #0 :

when editing metadata (rating, tags, title or description) of PNG files with
the latest version compiled from git master (see attached screenshot).

Metadata are saved to the database but never written to the files.

If you close digikam and "Cancel" the "Finishing tasks" window, then reopen
digikam again, it's possible to sync the metadata from the database by writing
them to the files using the menu command, but writing them automatically as
soon as they're entered doesn't seem to be working right now.

Additional information: digikam compiled from git master on opensuse 12.1 64
