git clone -l ../digikam-sc/core/
git checkout v2.1.0

which give the exact tagged 2.1.0 version is fine for me, there are other
changes in released tarballs, I cannot speak for those.

P.S. the link at c#17 is obviously a cut&paste error, it should be
http://dev.gentoo.org/~dilfridge/distfiles/digikam-2.1.0-tag.patch.bz2
