hello

i had a hard time to find this one, so if it can help somebody,
here it is:

i upgraded yesterday my linux box from ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10

I use a fresh digikam from source control and i compiled it
from scratch after the upgrade

then digikam starts, but if i try to go to Preferences, it
crashes before doing anything.

the problem is within accessibility components, in

/usr/lib/qt4/plugins/accessiblebridge/libqspiaccessiblebridge.so

i wanted to compile a fresh version of qt-at-spi which seems to be
the source of the bridge for the accessibility software.

But it displays a message really explicit:

Project MESSAGE: Building Qt at-spi bridge with Qt version 4.7.4 is not
recommended.
Project MESSAGE: The bridge will not work well and most likely crash
your application.
Project WARNING: Use Qt 4.8.

as i dont' want to upgrade to qt4.8 immediately, i used a brutal
method to disable the qt plugin

sudo chmod ugo=
/usr/lib/qt4/plugins/accessiblebridge/libqspiaccessiblebridge.so

then digikam seems ok! youpee!
