An idea: if you are able to confirm that the NIKON-NEF´s are the damged 
ones. Then they might open by the betaversion you have formerly used on 
them.
Now, just to know if this is the case, and if, which beta version was on 
your computer at that time. But I guess for a rebuild you need to have 
all the dependencies of that specific build wich is impossible I guess. 
And I am worried about the missing 866348 bytes. And how is metadata 
stored in NEF, at a specific location?
