Please, see attached file. That was what I was talking about. I (and other
people) usually save some versions to see differences between quality or after
export to the same folder, so it is easier to see directly in the image
background what kind of file is that.

Can you provide a DarkTable icon view screenshot with different file type mime,
as JPEG, TIFF, PNG, RAW ?
