As far as i know digikam is released under GPL (General Public Licence).

You're free to use it, free to change it and free to share, but you can't
claim the rights on this software and you can't sell it (that means not for
commercial)

You can contribute by visiting the official site : http://digikam.org  and
making a donation :)
