The valgrind tests do include appliation shutdown yes. In the last run I didn't
take a note in the output where I started the shutdown.

The shutdown was definitely after

digikam(15989)/digikam (core) Digikam::CollectionScanner::scanAlbum: Folder
does not exist or is not readable: 
"/media/shirephoto/digikam/PictureProject/0116/DSC_1958.JPG" 

But I am not sure if that is the last bit of output before I cancelled face
recognition/detection.

If I get some time tonight I will re-run and see if I can identify any specific
sequencing so that issues during shutdown can be separated from face detection
issues.
