Summary: RAW (NEF) file unreadable after editing IPTC
           Product: digikam
           Version: 1.7.0
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: major
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Metadata
        AssignedTo: digikam-devel at kde.org
        ReportedBy: yarek at baranik.com

Version: 1.7.0 (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux

After I've imported IPTC and XMP metadata including copyright and credit I did
use edit Caption option to add description to files in both XMP/IPTC. That is
working great but when I edited IPTC in a few files and after adding more
specific captions for particular images and saving changes, the file became
unreadable. However the changes applied and I can still edit metadata but there
is no image any more.
Same happend when I tried to edit XMP file.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Open raw file (I have used NEF from nikon D200) and import the XMP and IPTC
metadata. Then "Edit Caption" and add content. Edit IPTC and modify Caption,
apply. Or or edit XMP and apply.

Actual Results:
After those steps the total file size dropped from 10Mp to 64Kb and the file
was empty apart from Metadata.

Expected Results:
The changes made in Edit IPTC and Edit XMP should have been saved without
corrupting the whole file.

In DigiKam settings I have selected options to embedded all metadata into a
file.
