are cut off on the right...

You mean that memory consumption is rising and digikam crashes when all memory
is used?

Chances are it's in the SVG loader.
If you really see memory consumption rise ever and ever, run digikam under 
valgrind --tool=massif, run it for the desired effect, stop at a few hundred
MBs and attach the output here. Thanks!
