Summary: Image preview windows always has a scrollbar
Product: digikam
Version: 1.7.0
Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: digikam-devel at kde.org
ReportedBy: l.elle.stone at gmail.com
Version: 1.7.0 (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux
The digikam center pane, when a preview is displayed, there is always a
scrollbar. The scrollbar is at the side for portrait images, at the bottom for
landscape images. The scrollbar means that one edge or another of the image is
always cut off in the preview.
No matter how I resize the digikam window, no matter whether I move one or the
other or both side panes out of the way, there is always a scrollbar taking up
space. The size of the preview changes, from 45% to 67% to 74% to whatever the
available space is side-to-side or top-to-bottom. But the scrollbar is always
there, taking up just a bit of visual space.
This scrollbar is unnecessary - digikam should just size the image to fit the
window: 73% with no scrollbar is MUCH better than 74% with a scrollbar, given
that the scrollbar covers part of the image.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Open digikam, click on a thumb to display a preview.
Actual Results:
The scrollbar covers part of the image, requiring scrolling to see the very
edges of the image.
Expected Results:
There should not be a scrollbar covering any part of the image in preview mode,
unless one deliberately zooms in on the preview.
Sometimes I take several shots in a row, trying to get a tight "camera-crop"
around the subject of the photograph. That scrollbar in the preview makes me
think I cut off part of the subject when really I didn't. It is annoying to
have to keep scrolling up and down or side to side to see what the very edges
of the image look like.
Sometimes I am comparing two images just for composition, and that little bit
of scrollbar-covered image distorts the composition.
The preview should fill the available space. It should "fit to window". There
shouldn't be a scrollbar.
