I have the same problem yet Digikam looks for the right Haar Cascade dir.

Cascade directory located as : /usr/share/opencv/haarcascades
opened
OpenCV Error: Assertion failed (ssize.area() > 0) in resize, file
/build/buildd/opencv2.2-2.2.0/modules/imgproc/src/imgwarp.cpp, line 1391

That folder contains all the cascades it should, so that's not the problem. I
don't think that the directory is the problem, otherwise face detection
wouldn't work either while it does.

So does recognition work for anyone, and if it does, could you tell from where
you installed opencv and digikam?
