I haven't seen this problem for a while. I'm now on 1.4.0.

Is there a chance it is related to having read-only image
files? I noticed that the metadata was not updated (without
any warning given) in my image files because many of them
were read-only. I changed them all to read-write, but I
don't know if that would have made any difference.
