First, watch the little 'k' ;-)
You need to implement sidecar support in libkexiv2, using libexiv2. It's just
our Qt/KDE layer on top of exiv2.

In digikam I see a number of different workflows, from ignoring all sidecars to
using them exclusively. We'd need user input about the workflow needs here.
Also we should keep in mind that Sidecars carry only XMP; how to handle
concurrently present Exif and IPTC in the picture itself? There are a few
situations to think of.
