There seem to be some people working on the face recognition part - 
maybe ask them whether they want to do it as GSOC. Also, one could still 
split the annotation part from the recognition part and do only the 
annotation part for GSOC.

- There have been several requests for reverse-geocoding and storing 
that information as descriptions or tags. So a GUI could be designed and 
backends be written for geonames.org, Google Maps.

- The current map search only works on the selected regions and is item 
based. It would be nice if all images in the database were displayed on 
the map before the user makes a selection. The WorldMapWidget2 allows a 
model to be used to request images for the visible part of the map only. 
What needs to be done is a model that requests the required images from 
the database with some caching.
