Sorry for the long delay, but I did not find the time to compile it right away
- so tested it with 1.7.0, compiled from tar (kipi plugins and digikam) on
Ubuntu 10.10.
I tested it on a large collection of more than 100.000 pictures, jpg and svg.
The aforementioned crash did not happen anymore, but I got a memory leak, which
lead to a crash after about 20% done.
The last lines in the log:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'
  what():  std::bad_alloc
