this issue is still present in 1.2.0 (using in Debian unstable and
experimental).

Interesting, in gwenview the same thing happens. Is it possible, that libexiv
causes these problems?

Setting and managing of metadata is a key feature of digikam. Is there any
chance of getting it back?
