The problem is anywhere between the system integration layer (traditionally
HAL) and the KDE libraries (Solid). "hal-device" is a similar tool to get debug
info.
I assume that HAL and not Solid is the problem. You should check your version
and if any problems are known with your particular hard disk setup. On the
other hand your are running unstable kdelibs, there may be bugs as well.
You also mention an "update". Whatever part of the stack was updated could give
an indication about the problem.
