No, it's not that simple. For photos of landscape you have no problems with
some white pixels in clouds or if you took an image with backlight and want the
foreground to be visible and so on.

I don't have a Nikon, but eg. my Olympus camera includes an image with
something about 1400px on the longer side inside the raw file. You can decide
wether the digikam preview should use this included image somewhere in the
album view settings.
