Usually there is a feedback dialog appearing before the changes are applied
with info about storage location or any problems. Nothing for you?
Please also check if there is output on the console.
Ensure that KDE Solid is working on your system ("solid-hardware list details"
gives a lot of output) because I got reports that Ubuntu managed to break this.
