Probably the most important reason not to care about which disk the collection
is on is that unix is designed to not care about where the physical files are
stored, as long as the pathname is the same, the same file is intended.
Obviously, this breaks when partitions are added/removed willy nilly, like with
usb storage. But it makes no sense to break the basic design assumption of unix
(and Linux). To determine whether a different collection is meant by the
user(!), some sort of identifier should be kept with the collection, in the
form of a file, or the identification should be based on the image files
themselves.
