My version is:
$ exiv2 -V 
exiv2 0.18

Can you provide a proper command to test?

BTW I've find another picture on which digiKam crashes.
Don't no is this the same problem.

This is not an easy task and I prefer to use capabilities of package manager.

There is "PPA for Digikam and KIPI-Plugins Experimental packages" but packages
in this repository only for kubuntu 8.10 (mine is 9.04).
Also I found PPA with exiv2 0.18.1 -- would it be enough?
