Sharpness: why harder? when you will turn off everything - toolbar, thumbbar,
etc. you have the same size as in slideshow. (+- few pixels depending on window
decoration strategy).

Maybe you should turn on Settings->Album View->Misc Options (bottom of dialog):
Embedded preview loads full-sized images?
