Sorry, couldn't re-compile digikam earlier.
Current SVN: Still the same problem. The Albums sidebar always shows collapsed
directories:

My Albums
> Fotos

Although the pics shown in the Preview are
My Albums
> Fotos
> > Subdirectory
> > > Another subdir
> > > > Here.
