I don't experience the bug anymore after I downgraded KDE4 from 4.1.73 (trunk)
to 4.1.3 (4.1 branch).  and after I took a new svn snapshot from today. 
However, I had to trick the CMakeLists.txt in the digikam directory because it
would not recognize that I have the proper version of libkexiv2. I guess it has
something to do with checking the version:
IF(NOT WIN32)
    FIND_PACKAGE(PkgConfig)
    PKG_CHECK_MODULES(Kexiv2 libkexiv2>=0.5.0)
